The Moon & Planets in June

Around June 1, you can find Mars close to the Waxing Crescent Moon. Look to the west just after sunset to find the Red Planet hanging out with the Moon. See our sky map for New York, USA; London, UK; and Sydney, Australia.

Around June 22, the Moon has a close approach with Venus. Get up early to see the thin Waning Cresent Moon with a very bright Venus on the eastern horizon before they get lost in the bright light after sunrise. See the sky map for New York, USA, London, UK, and Sydney, Australia.

Around June 29–30, the Moon has another close approach with Mars. Find the two above the western horizon just after sunset. But you have to be quick, the Waxing Crescent Moon and Mars will set a couple of hours later in the Northern Hemisphere—see New York, USA and London, UK. In Sydney, Australia, they set around four hours after sunset.

Also, the Moon will have a new visitor in June: HAKUTO-R Mission 2 is scheduled to land in Mare Frigoris, the Sea of Cold, around June 6.
